Found at the centre of Moscow, the Red Square is the dividing line between the Kitay Gorod commercial district, the Kremlin, and the current official residence of the President of Russia. All Moscow’s major streets originate in the square and connect to the major highways in Russia. Before the 18th century, the Kremlin was built adjacent to the Red Square to address a known vulnerability. Yet as Russia entered a more contemporary age, the Red Square became the cultural and political centre of Russia. The Square is a showcase for military parades, a venue for high-profile concerts, and in 1990 became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These are not to be missed when you visit Russia!
